Be Courageous Bible Adventure

Greetings to you and so glad you've returned for more Daily Bread. Now that we're finished with the five books of Moses, we're about to embark on the continuing story about God's people, the children of Israel, and what all happened as they entered into the Promised Land to take possession of the inheritance that the Lord gave them.

Joshua, the first of the twelve historical books (Joshua - Esther), forges a link between the Pentateuch (the five books of Moses) and the remainder of Israel's history. Through three major military campaigns involving more than thirty enemy armies, the people of Israel learn an important lesson under Joshua's capable leadership: Victory comes through Faith in God and obedience to His Word, not through military might or numerical superiority.

After the death of Moses, the Lord spoke to Joshua, telling him to cross the Jordan River to the Promised Land. The Lord assured Joshua that He would guide him just as He did Moses, and to be strong and courageous, and obey the law of the Lord, and He would protect him wherever he went.

Be Courageous Bible Promise

It was Joshua's task to divide the Promised Land among the children of Israel. He instructed the officers of the tribes to announce that they should prepare food, because within three days, they would be crossing the Jordan to possess the Promised Land.

He also told the officers to remind the tribes of Reuben and Gad, that even though they had already possessed their land on the east side of the Jordan, those men suitable for war must cross the Jordan armed, ahead of the others, and could return to their families and possessions, once all tribes had possessed their inheritance of the Promised Land and all were at peace.

The people all answered Joshua, assuring that whatever he said, they would do, just as they listened to Moses, and they encouraged Joshua, asking God's blessing upon him.

Be Courageous Bible Conclusion

Put yourself in Joshua's shoes for a moment. Moses would certainly be a tough act to follow, so the inspiration from the Lord as well as the children of Israel was probably very much appreciated by Joshua.
