The Treasures in Heaven Bible Verse Quest

Treasures are a collection of precious things that one stores up ... If you "treasure" something, that means that you cherish it, or it has extraordinary meaning or value to you.

As children, most of us had our own little secret treasure box of some sort, where we stored up everything that had Spiritual or sentimental value to the inner child within each of us. We would open it often and review all of the contents within and these treasures remained within our minds and hearts.

As children, we seemed to see the value in a letter from a friend, a mood ring, a matchbox car or some worthless rock that we found. We found these things to be ... Priceless.

But, as adults, many choose to store up things that the world finds valuable. They seem to have lost that childlike love for the eternal things in life and have traded up for the temporal things.

However, the Lord asks us to store up Treasures in Heaven, not on earth.

Treasure in Heaven map to Biblical Treasures Adventure

Matthew 6:19-21

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

A rich man asked Jesus what he must do to gain Eternal Life. Jesus answered:

Mark 10:21

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in Heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

As Christians, our goal is to be as much like Jesus as we can be ... To follow in His footsteps. We walk around asking others, What Would Jesus Do, but why have we never considered, How did Jesus feel about being poor? He certainly could have chosen to live a more comfortable life, but what did He do? Was Jesus rich? Was Jesus what we call middle class? Was Jesus even above poverty level?

The answer is that Jesus lived as if He was poor. Jesus was actually homeless in fact.

Matthew 8:20

And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head.

Allow me to share a parable that Jesus shared with us ...

Luke 12:16-31

16 And He spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will He clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31 But rather seek ye the Kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Treasure in Heaven Gift of Biblical Treasures Hunt

It is obvious in this parable it speaking against those who seek worldly riches and creature comforts and that the balance will bring horrible results to this soul:

1 Timothy 6:9-10

9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

James 5:1-2

1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth eaten.

But, this does not describe most of you that are reading this today as most are all pretty much broke as a joke and just trying to get by day to day.

Treasures in Heaven Concern

So, is this saying that Jesus expects us all to sell everything we have and follow Him?

What about paying our bills huh? How can we pay our bills if we sell all, surrender our worldly goods, values and even our jobs, to serve Him? How would we eat? Where would we live?

So, why does Jesus ask us to sell all and follow Him? My friend, here is Truth. We did not ask Jesus this question, the rich man did. Hear the Truth ... Jesus was talking to a rich man and this is why He asked him to sell all. Because the treasure of the rich man's heart, was his wealth. If you were to ask Jesus the question that the rich man did, the answer would probably be different. (Unless you are a Miser or something)

So, that Treasures in Heaven Bible verse Scripture does not mean that if we want to be good Christians that we should all give up our homes and our jobs like the Apostles did, but rather to beware of making worldly views and/or goods, your treasures of the heart.

It was necessary for the Apostles to leave their homes and jobs and families, because their role as Apostles was quite different than the role of today's disciples.

So, does this exclude the financially poor from storing up treasures in Heaven? Not hardly ... So, what are the Treasure in Heaven that we are to be storing up:

Luke 12:33-34

33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the Heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

It appears that treasures in Heaven are acts of sacrifice and Charity. Not necessarily money, but just showing unconditional Love for others. How do we obtain these "treasures in Heaven?

Luke 6:45

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Treasure in Heaven and Biblical Treasures Reward

These treasures in Heaven, are obtained by giving of ourselves (without personal gain) to others.

Now, it is obvious that there are those who are called to His cause and are asked to sell all worldly goods and follow Him, just as the Apostles were and the rich man was. This is because God knows that these worldly treasures will interfere with His calling for them.

Let me ask you a Treasures in Heaven Bible trivia question ... What happens if we know we have been called to surrender something and choose not to? Do you believe that the Lord would take what we have? From our businesses, transportation, health, our loved ones and even Spiritual gifts to grab our attention?

Do you believe that this has this ever happened to you? If so, why do you believe the Lord would take these things we treasure from us?

The Treasures in Heaven Bible Verse Summary

The Lord is teaching us to increase our Faith in the next realm and to place our treasures in Heaven ... Not in this world:

James 2:5

Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in Faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which He hath promised to them that love Him? Just as Jesus did.

2 Corinthians 8:9

For ye know the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.

The Treasures in Heaven Bible verses have revealed that we are to store up these treasures in Heaven by serving Him, showing this Unconditional Love for others and sharing the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost and troubled.God is keeping track of your Treasures in Heaven.

Shouldn't you be too?
