As you recall we just learned the lesson that a man is not without honor
except in his own home country in our Tell me the story of Jesus voyage ... Now, we will delve into the how to become Fishers of Men in the Bible journey seeking the mysteries and path of the Fishers of Man Bible procedure. Some of the Apostles of Jesus were actually fishermen so what did Jesus mean? Most have heard the Fishers of Men in the Bible reference before but what did Jesus mean when He said He would make his followers fishers of man? Let's go find out together.
When Jesus left His home country of
Nazareth, He stayed in Capernaum. Now Israel had seen better days
than what they were having at that time. Most recently, being under
the rule of the Romans was awful for them and you can well imagine
that the memories of when Herod had all the male babies that were
two years old and under murdered, was something nobody could ever
forget. People were overtaxed by Caesar the emperor of Rome, and
they just didn't have much of anything to feel happy about. They all
hoped the Messiah would come soon and bring consolation to Israel. The prophet Isaiah spoke about this when he said:
Isaiah
9:1-2
Nevertheless the darkness will not be as it was in her (Israel's)
troubled times, when He first lightly afflicted the land of Zebulon
and the land of Naphtali and after that afflicted her worse by the
way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the Gentiles. The
people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that
live in the land of deep darkness, upon them has the light shined.

Jesus was the Light that the prophet Isaiah was talking about. Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom
of God, saying, The time is fulfilled and the Kingdom of Heaven is
at hand. Repent and believe in the Gospel. People were astonished at
His doctrine because His Word was given with authority and power.
Here comes the best of the Fishers of Men in the Bible story ... As Jesus walked by the sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and Andrew,
throwing a net into the sea, as they were fishers. And He said to
them, Follow me and I will make you fishers of men. They
immediately left their nets and followed Him. Jesus said to Simon
Peter, You are Simon, the son of Jona: you shall be called Cephas,
which means, A rock.
(So, Jesus was the first of the Fishers of Man) When Jesus had walked a little
farther He saw James and John his brother in a ship with their
father Zebedee, mending their nets. Jesus called them and they too,
immediately left the ship and their father and followed Jesus.
The next day, Jesus went into Galilee
and finding Philip, He said to him, Follow me. Philip found
Nathaniel and said, We have found Him! The one that Moses spoke of
in the law and that the prophets wrote about. It's Jesus of
Nazareth, the son of Joseph. Nathaniel said to Philip, Has anything
good ever come out of Nazareth? Philip said, Come and see.
Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to Him and said, Here comes an Israelite with no dishonesty! Nathaniel asked
Jesus, How do you know me? Jesus answered, Before Philip called you,
I saw you under the fig tree. Nathaniel then said, You are the Son
of God. You are the King of Israel. Jesus said, Just because I said
I saw you under the fig tree, you believe that? You'll see greater
things than these. Truly, truly I tell you, in time you will see
Heaven open and the Angels of God ascending and descending upon the
Son of man.
Jesus has begun to gather His Apostles to begin His Ministry to save all of the souls that He can ... Jesus will make them excellent fishers of men who will continue to travel with Him and later they will have to go at it alone as the bring in the sheep that belong to God. Jesus taught them how to become Fishers of Men in the Bible story and walked them through the techniques of the Fishers of Man Bible path and because they chose to hear and adhere to His teachings, YOU are here today with the opportunity to become a Shepherd of God.
