Start our Tell Me the Story of Jesus
Bible Study from the beginning:

We will pick up where we left off in the Tell Me the Story of Jesus voyage ... One Sabbath day, Jesus was walking through a field of corn and His disciples were hungry, so they started to pick the corn and eat it. When the Pharisees saw them, they said to Jesus; Look, your disciples are breaking the law of the Sabbath day. Jesus answered, Haven't you read what David did when he and the people who were with him were hungry? He went into the house of God and ate the showbread, which wasn't lawful for him or his men to eat, but only for the priests (1 Samuel 21:6). And haven't you read in the law how on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple work on the Sabbath and are blameless (Numbers 28:9-10)?

But, I tell you, in this place is One greater than the Temple. What did He mean by that? The Pharisees had utmost respect for the law, and the sacredness of the Temple, etc. Jesus was saying that they respect the physical house of God before they respect God Himself. He went on, But if you knew what I meant when I said, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you wouldn't have condemned the innocent. For the Son of man is Lord of the Sabbath day.

So we find thus far in the Lord of the Sabbath Day Bible story that God had mercy on David and his men for eating the showbread even though it was deemed to be against the law because God would obviously not rather have David, His anointed, go hungry, in order to uphold the law than be strengthened by the bread so he could defend God's people. The Bible reveals that God takes circumstances into consideration when He judges a matter and Jesus is sharing the Spiritual essence of the Sabbath Day meaning.

The commandment says, Thou shalt not kill. But because Saul didn't kill Agag the king of the Amalekites and all their best livestock, the Lord rejected him as king of Israel. However, because David killed so many people (even though he did it by the Lord's commandment), he wasn't allowed to build the House of God. There are different circumstances and different points of view to many things. Jesus was pointing out to the Pharisees again that they didn't understand the New Testament. God said: I will have mercy and not sacrifice.

Now, do not believe that the Lord of the Sabbath Day Bible study means that you can use the New Testament as an excuse not to obey God's law. God forbid. It means that when there are circumstances that serve the Lord better than the law, God knows your heart and that your intent wasn't to break the law, but to do the best for Him. Also, remember that the government laws are different than the laws of God. The police will not extend mercy to you if you ran a red light because you were late for Church ... But, would God?

Back to seeking the whole truth of the Sabbath Day meaning ... Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on another Sabbath and there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no way lift herself up. When Jesus saw her, He called her to Him, and said to her, Woman, You are loosed from your infirmity. He laid His hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. The ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day, and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.

The Lord then answered him, and said, You hypocrite, does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, look, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?

The Lord of the Sabbath Day Bible Tidbit Of Truth ... On another Sabbath day, Jesus went into the synagogue and taught. The scribes and Pharisees watched Him, waiting to see if He would heal on the Sabbath day so they could accuse Him. There was a man whose hand was withered (crippled). The Pharisees asked Jesus, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days? Jesus said to the man, Stand up. Then He said to the Pharisees, Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath days, or to do evil? To save life, or to destroy it? But the Pharisees didn't answer.

Jesus continued, Who among you, if you have one sheep and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, wouldn't lift it out? How much more is a man worth than a sheep? So, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath days.

Pssssssst ... Starting to grasp the Sabbath Day meaning from the shared Words of Jesus in our Lord of the Sabbath Day Bible adventure? He looked at the Pharisees with anger, and it grieved Him because they had no compassion and Jesus said to the man, Stretch out your hand. He stretched it out and it was healed just like his other hand. Then the Pharisees went out and had a meeting with Herod's people against Jesus, conspiring how they could destroy Him.

But Jesus knew it, so He left there and huge crowds followed Him and He healed them all on that Sabbath day and told them not to let anyone know so that the prophecy would be fulfilled that Isaiah wrote (Isaiah 42:1-4), Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my Spirit upon Him: He shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.

In other words, He won't go shouting about the miracles that He's done. As you've seen time and time again in the Lord of the Sabbath Day Bible study, He tells people not to tell anyone, but they always go and spread the news. A bruised reed shall He not break, and the smoking flax shall He not quench: He won't hurt anything or anyone, and those who refuse to believe in Him, will burn.

He shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till He have set judgment in the earth: and the isles (Gentiles) shall wait for His law. Justice will prevail and His Gospel will be spread until the end of the world. And the Gentiles will have their chance to accept Him as their Savior, during the Time of the Gentiles. Jesus is so humble. He won't force you to believe in Him. He gives you the choice. The Pharisees didn't believe and they persecuted Him every chance they could.
