The absolutely awesome and extremely intriguing message within this Wandering Sheep and Wandering Soul study will truly enhance your be-YOU-tiful Christian walk.
THE LOST BIBLE VERSES EXPLANATION
There is a little wandering sheep story going around which suggests
that there are shepherds who break the legs of their wandering sheep
which would stray away from the flock. The story suggests that they
use splints to hold the sheep's legs in place and then carry the
sheep on their shoulders while the sheep's legs heal.
The theory is that the wandering sheep will become dependent on the
Shepherd and when the legs are healed and they are able to walk
again, they will then know the shepherd and choose to follow the
shepherd and not be wandering sheep anymore.
Though this Wandering Sheep and/or Wandering Soul story is not Biblically sound, some have chosen to use
that suggested theory and the following Scripture as a basis, to
suggest that the Lord does the same to His wandering sheep.
Job 5:18
How enviable is the man whom God corrects. Oh, do not despise the
chastening of the Lord when you sin. For though He wounds, He binds
and heals once again.
Knowing the story of Job and what was truly going on, we know the
Truth. Job was being tested by the enemy of our soul and the Lord
allowed it because the Lord believed in the Faith and patience of His
servant Job. Though, I understand completely the intent of this analogy, it has
some major flaws.
The Lost Bible Verses Hope
This leg breaking method may be what a bad shepherd does, but is not
what a Good Shepherd does with a sheep that wanders away according to
the Word of God.
Matthew 18:12-13
12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and
one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and
nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone
astray?
13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you,
he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine
which went not astray.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd:
John 10:11
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
John 10:14
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
This Wandering Sheep / Wandering Soul Scripture reveals that Jesus is known of the sheep and He needs
not break their legs to get em to know and follow Him. They choose to
follow Him.
Our Shepherd is a Good Shepherd. Those who use what Job said to prove
their leg breaking shepherd theory forgot what else Job said just
before the verse they like to use.
Job 5:17
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not
thou the chastening of the Almighty: How enviable is the man whom God
corrects.
Wandering Sheep aka Wandering Soul tidbit of Truth ... Of course He will correct us as any good parent would, but our Lord wants us to choose to follow Him, not be abused into having to. Most of the time the Word of God is correction enough to keep us on
the path.
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness:
The Lost Bible Verses Counseling
Other times, we may fall short and He will correct us as any good
Father would:
Proverbs 3:11-12
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither
be weary of His correction:
12 For whom the Lord loveth He correcteth; even as
a father the son in whom he delighteth.
And sometimes, it is nothing nice:
Proverbs 15:10
Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that
hateth reproof shall die.
But, we understand it afterward and are so glad that He saved us from
our choices. No, if you find our Good Shepherd carrying us on His
shoulders, it is usually because of something that we did to
ourselves and in Love, He is carrying us during our healing time.
Isaiah 40:11
He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs
with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall
gently lead those that are with young.
The Lost Bible Verses Summary
So, let us follow the method of the Good Shepherd if and when we are
given the position of Overseer of His sheep.
Acts 20:28
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the
which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of
God, which He hath purchased with His own blood.
