In the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans, Paul expresses that he had wanted to visit Rome for a long time and that after taking a collection for the poor to Jerusalem; he had hopes of going to Rome, then on to Spain. He sends this letter in the meantime to explain the Gospel to the Romans.

He explains that righteousness is essential of both Jewish and Gentile and can only be obtained by faith in Jesus Christ who made atonement for our sins possible. It was important for Paul that he go to Rome with his message because the Roman Empire dominated the world and Paul's ambition was to preach to the whole world.
