What are the Fruits of the Holy Spirit to You
Glad to have you here once again for more of our study of the New Testament and this moving letter from Paul to the Galatians. Let's read on as he leads them back to the Truth of the New Testament. You may want to choose to walk this Spiritual path with the Holy Spirit.
1 Stand fast [unwavering] therefore in the liberty
wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with
the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised
[if you believe the Old Testament is the way to salvation], Christ
shall profit you nothing.
3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised,
that he is a debtor [obligated] to do the whole law.
Think of the implications of this. That means you would have to follow everything in the Books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy ... Perfectly ... Or else!
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you [believe you] are justified [cleared of guilt, saved] by the law; ye are fallen from grace. [You have given up (forfeited, refused) Grace.]

What are the Fruits of the Holy Spirit Blessing
Think about that for a moment. On second thought, think about that every time we impose law on others. Think about it every time you don't accept someone because they do something or have done something that you don't approve of. (Haven't we all?) For that matter, we sometimes find it acceptable to shun people for reasons that don't even have anything to do with law or what we deem as righteousness in a person.
Here are some examples of both. We're imposing "law" on others when we judge them because: they smoke, they drink, they're old, they're young, they're not attractive, they're too attractive, they listen to "that" music, they're divorced, they're handicapped, they're loud, they're shy, they're too smart and they intimidate you, they're not smart enough for your standards, they're a certain denomination, they're a certain nationality, they have a wart on their chin, oh my, the list is endless. Where's the love?
But is this really "law?" I don't know, it sure seems like the opposite of Grace. Just a point to ponder.
In the next several verses there are a number of clarifications within parenthesis. Let's get back now to Paul's message.

5 For we through the [Holy] Spirit wait for the hope of
righteousness by faith [we count on Christ's death to cleanse our
sins and make us right with God].
6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any
thing [it's of no use], nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh
by [through] love.
7 Ye did run well [you were doing so good, striving
forward in Faith]; who did hinder you that ye should not obey [you
lost sight of] the truth?
8 This persuasion [belief] cometh not of Him that calleth
you [God].
9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
A little yeast, raises all the dough. A little bit of untruth can cause many to turn away from the Truth, ( Matthew 16:12).
10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will
be none otherwise minded [you will feel the same way]: but he that
troubleth [deceives] you shall bear his judgment [pay for his guilt],
whosoever he be.
11 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I
yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
[Some were saying that Paul was preaching that circumcision is still
necessary. But they wouldn't have a problem with him if that were the
case and they would stop persecuting him.]
12 I would they were even cut off [stopped] which trouble
you.
13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty [to be
free]; only use not liberty [freedom] for an occasion to the flesh
[don't let physical desires control you], but by love serve one
another.
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this;
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Matthew 22:39 This is the new "law" or the New Testament.

What Are the Fruits of the Holy Spirit For
But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
Be careful that you don't destroy one another when you impose law on others. Be careful when you talk to others and about others. Think. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition to those things that were mentioned earlier, that may include backbiting, gossip, rumor starting or spreading, slander, whatever you want to call it, they are all destructive. Stick to the stuff that is rooted and grounded in love and you'll be alright. Read the next few verses carefully.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not
fulfil the lust [desires] of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth [wars] against the Spirit, and
the Spirit [wars] against the flesh: and these are contrary
[opposites - against] the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the
things that ye would [things you want to do]. [There is always a
battle between the flesh and the Spirit, so surrender to the Spirit.]
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the
law [the Old Testament law].
19 Now the works [callings] of the flesh are manifest
[clear - plain], which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness,
lasciviousness [lust],
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance [disagreement],
emulations [jealousies], wrath, strife, seditions [divisions],
heresies [dissension],
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings [wildness,
rebellion], and such like [similar things]: of the which I tell you
before [ahead of time], as I have also told you in time past, that
they which do such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

What Are the Fruits of the Holy Spirit Purpose
Now get ready for the good news:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering [patience], gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance [self control]: against such there
is no law.
This should explain clearly how the law is for the lawless, being that there are laws against all the things mentioned that are works of the flesh, but there are no laws against the things that are works of the Spirit ... Doing good is not against the law!
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified [put to
death] the flesh with the affections and lusts [its passions and
desires].
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the
Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory [pride], provoking
one another, envying one another.
Paul knew that Truth was the only thing that could bring the Galatians back to the light, and he gave them a very good case against the deception that had entered into their churches. This may be a good time to examine your own personal "laws" and veto them. Replace them with the new law that Jesus gave us ... Love one another.
