Day 5
Self Harm Poetry For Self Injury Recovery
Stop Self Harm Addiction Journey
Welcome back! Today we are going to talk about specific things we can
do to help us stop self harm.
Start with knowing that you can quit. Remember the hope and
believe page?
Many times we have set in our heads that "this time is really going
to be my last ... Well ... until I get upset again." Or the thought
process of saying you are going to quit ... But believing deep down,
that you can't. You are always going to be like this. You are never
going to change. You are stuck like this forever. Its just part of
who I am.
Those are whispers from the father of lies (Satan):
John 8:44
He (satan) was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the
truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he
speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
You have to have hope before you can even begin to imagine yourself
quitting. Most self harm because they don't know what else to do to
escape, which is exactly how to quit.
Find a healthy replacement for coping instead of self harm.

Stop Self Harm Addiction Cure
When you feel overwhelmed, make a list of other things you could do
instead. keep that list posted everywhere you frequent. Things like
writing, listening to music, running/exercise, drawing, painting,
write a letter to someone to say hello, pray, read the Bible, recite
all the Bible verses you know out loud, memorize verses to recite to
yourself out loud.
Be with someone or call someone. It would be great to have one person
in your life that knew specifically that you were struggling with it
that you could call or even have them call and check on you ... Like
accountability.
Think about it ... How many people harm themselves with someone
sitting next to them? Very few to none. When someone harms
themselves, they do it alone. (Unless they are doing it as peer
pressure to try to fit in.)
Think about it ... It is private. It is secret. Some people just need
to talk to someone. Some need to be able to just ... Get everything
out.
James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye
may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man
availeth much.
Tell someone about everything that is weighing on your heart and
mind. Some people need someone to help them figure out how to deal or
fix issues in their life.
Stop Self Harm Tidbit of Truth ... Consider creating a secret box filled with potential escapes. What
things make you smile? You can place someone's phone number within
the box, pictures of your favorite memories, your favorite uplifting
CD, a book that always makes you laugh, a funny movie ... Anything
that helps you feel better. This box is used when you are struggling.
You open it and it gives you options instead of running to harm
yourself.
Here is another idea ... Hold ice. Sounds weird? If you are into the
"physical pain relieving the emotional pain" ideology, this idea
might work for you. It gives the sensation of physical pain holding
it in your hand or rubbing it on your skin, but it does not leave
scars, blood and it doesn't actually hurt you or anyone in your life
as you overcome the addiction of self harm.
Again, like the last page, if you have ways that you find might help
you for a little while, email us so we can make our list even longer
and help even more people that are struggling.

How To Stop Self Harm Addiction
What is a trigger?
It is something that brings to mind and heart something negative
which then brings forth the concept of self harm.
Find your triggers and avoid them. Is there something that typically
happens before you have the desire to harm yourself? You might even
have several triggers. Become familiar with all of them so that you
can avoid them and/or be able to better deal with them.
If listening to certain songs triggers you, don't listen to them. If
specific kinds of situations happen that trigger you, avoid those
kind of movies or TV shows. (Such as rape scenes might be a trigger a
rape victim or survivor, so avoid those shows or movies that talk
about rape.)
Being around a certain person or crowd might trigger you. Try to
avoid that person or crowd. It is really a no brainer. But ... You do
have to choose to do so. In short ... Take control of your triggers.
Find the source why you want to harm yourself. Attack the root of the
problem.
You can find replacements all day long and keep yourself from
harming, but if you don't attack the reason of why you even have the
desire to self harm in the first place, you are merely placing a
band-aid on a broken soul.
Self Harm and Self Injury Recovery Truth
Self Harm Addiction & Self Injury Addiction Peace
This section is for those who know it is wrong, but simply don't
care, and decide to allow the self harm to continue anyway ...
(For those who are attempting to heal ... This does not apply to
you.)
It's your choice what happens. It's your choice if you are going to
continue to allow it or not. But, because God knows our heart ... And
He knows when we know better but still choose to hurt ourselves.
Imagine with me for a second ...
We have driven for a little while on a long windy road. The road has
come to a dead end. We have to choice to go right or left. We can't
go both. We can drive straight ahead so we don't have to "chose," but
we would just smash into that huge tree in front of us. It's not
possible.
Right or left.
We have the choice. We can chose the path that heads to healing. The
state of freedom. God's plan for our life.
Or we can chose to go in the opposite direction and allow it to
continue.
Why would you chose to live a life that you feel encaged every single
day? Why would you chose to do something that you know makes you want
to scream out in shame and hurt afterward? Why would you allow
something so wrong to happen (and you know it being wrong)
continue to seep into and stain every part of your life, and instead
of trying to clean it (when you have the things to remove the stain)
you cry yourself to sleep wishing it would disappear on its own?
It's not going to disappear on its own.
Knowing what is wrong and purposely continuing has you living in sin.
Sin separates you from God and His Promise of eternal life
(life in Heaven rather than hell) ... Until you chose to repent and
turn to Jesus. You can't have it both ways.
Even if we have continued to do it before, that is in the past.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count
slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any
should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Start new.

this self harm addiction. He can and has forgiven you. We need to learn to

Voice of a Savior
by Mandisa
Some people try to listen, to the bottom of a bottle
Some people try to listen, to a needle in their arm
Some people try to listen, to the money in their pocket
Some people try to listen, to another's arms
{Chorus}
You and I are not that different
We got a void and we're just trying to fill it up
With something that will give just a little peace
All we want is a hand to reach to
Open arms that say I love you
We'd give anything to hear
The voice of a Savior
Some people try to find it with blind ambition
Some people try to find it where no one else has gone
Some people try to find it in the crowns of victory
Some people get defeated and lose the strength to carry on
{Chorus}
Some people try to find it in the shadow of a steeple
Some people try to find it in the back row pew
Some people try to find it in the arms of Jesus
That's where I found it, how about you?
{Chorus}
