The Book of Lamentations was written by the Prophet Jeremiah. The Book of Lamentations is recited by practicing Jewish souls on 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av. On this day they mourn the destruction of the two previous Temples that were in Jerusalem.

The first Temple was destroyed by Babylon and the second by the Romans. It is important to remember that both Temple destructions were prophesied of as God allowed and maybe even used the countries to destroy the Temples as the Israelites were disobedient to God.

There are 5 poetic sharings within this book which focus on said destructions and the pain, suffering and persecution the Israelites endured. Jeremiah explained how it was God's hand and that it was a purifying of sorts in that they would be taught a lesson and hopefully hear and adhere to it.
