Let us return to our adventure. When Jesus returned from the wilderness by the strength of the Holy Spirit after being tempted for all that time, He went into Galilee and His fame spread throughout all the land. He taught in their synagogues and all the people glorified Him.
Now, after this ... Jesus decided to head to His earthly home to do some of God's work. But, something odd happened when He arrived. Let's read about it, shall we?
MARK 6:1-7
And He (Jesus) went out from thence, and came into His own country; and His disciples follow Him. And when the Sabbath day was come, He began to teach in the Synagogue: and many hearing Him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto Him, that even such mighty works are wrought by His hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not His sisters here with us? And they were offended at Him. But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in His own country, and among His own kin, and in His own house. And He could there do no mighty work, save that He laid His hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. And He went round about the villages, teaching. And He called unto Him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

As we head forward into our ... A Prophet Without Honor Bible study, let's look at the Scripture that Jesus was reading which was from the Book of Isaiah which was a Prophet from hundreds of years earlier. The prophecy Jesus was reading was predicting the Messiah's arrival. Jesus was trying to explain ... The Messiah was here !!!
Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach
the gospel to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Now, before we sojourn into a Prophet is not without honor Bible verses, I would like to research this a little deeper as to fully understand Jesus' point that He was making which His home town people ... Just could never believe. I will paraphrase a bit, but the actual Scripture is up above, on this page. Let's go see ...
Everyone was staring at Jesus after He read that. He then tells the people "Today, this scripture is fulfilled in your ears" ... Meaning that what Jesus had just read, was happening to them right then and right there and that HE, was who Isaiah was talking about in that Scripture.
They did NOT believe Him and they said to one another, Isn't this Joseph's son? They doubted that HE could be who He said that He was because they knew Him as a child growing up there. Jesus said to them, You will certainly say heal yourself. He knew that they would mock Him by saying for Him to perform a miracle by healing Himself as if it were He with a problem.
Jesus said, Truly I say to you, No prophet is believed in His own country. But I'll tell you the truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah when it didn't rain for 3½ years and great famine swept the land, but Elijah was only sent to one widow, in Sidon. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, but none of them were cleansed, except Naaman, the
Syrian.
When the people in the synagogue heard this, they
were upset, to say the least. They got up and threw Jesus out of the city
and led Him to the edge of the hill that Nazareth was built on so they
could push Him off. However ... Jesus escaped and went His way.
A Prophet Without Honor Bible trivia ... What was Jesus telling those people from His home
town in this, a Prophet is not without honor Bible verses?
Someone once said it this way: "Why is it that people praise
dead saints but persecute the living ones?" People find it hard to
believe that prophets exist in modern times, but ask yourself this.
When do you think God stopped making prophets? Maybe there's one in
your own home country, but you just find it hard to believe because
after all, it couldn't possibly be. Maybe you are experiencing this.
Maybe God has called you but those around you (family and friends)
just can't believe that YOU could be HIS servant and called to share
TRUTH because, after all, they KNOW you.
Did they really know Him?
Do they really KNOW the new you?
Think about it.
This a Prophet Without Honor Bible lesson taken from the absolutely awesome ... A Prophet is not without honor Bible verses confirms that those who think they know you now, after you became a Christian, just because they knew you before ... Do NOT know the renewed you and few would or could rarely believe that you could be Called or Chosen by God.
They did not believe Jesus Himself. You are in good company.
