Welcome back lovely lady! Do you love to be called lovely? Can you be lovely without the virtue of love? It's not a physical attribute, it is spiritual. When you think of being lovely, I urge you not to think of what you look like. What does a soul look like? It is not a visible entity, but naturally, you probably think of it as a beautiful thing.

Let's look at the virtue of loveliness from a different viewpoint. We are human beings, flesh and blood, and we have this ... Shell ... This heavy fleshly body that we drag around this Earth all of our human lives, and because of gravity, it keeps us anchored to the Earth.

Frankly, most women aren't happy with their physical bodies. That's why they spend countless hours and incredible amounts of money trying to make it look different than it is, but in Truth, you are born again in the Spirit. Your spirit is weightless, invisible, free!

Before we talk about the question, How should a Christian woman dress, Don't forget, God made you in His image, and other human beings who don't understand the essence of loveliness may have a difficult time grasping the truth of it, but since our spirits are stuck with a body while we exist on this planet, let's figure out how we can represent a godly loveliness in our human form ... No matter what others (or you yourself) may think of your encasement.

Even though your body is just the box that contains the gift of you, it still needs care. You're a reflection of the Lord and you represent Him ... After all, the Spirit of God lives inside of you!

1 Corinthians 3:16

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

1 Corinthians 6:20

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

So what about clothing?

How should a Christian woman dress is a very delicate question, and I hope you'll reflect on your own wardrobe during this Step, but remember, it's not what you wear, it's why you wear it. The next scripture selection is a pretty powerful one, but I must point out to you that the Lord is addressing the daughters of Zion ... In the Old Testament.

Isaiah 3:16-26

16 Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton [wandering] eyes, walking and mincing [with small steps - tripping] as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:
17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts.
18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery [beauty] of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls [lace], and their round tires [turbans] like the moon,
19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers [scarves],
20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands [sashes], and the tablets [perfume boxes], and the earrings,
21 The rings, and nose jewels,
22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles [cloaks], and the wimples [cloth worn over the head and around the neck and chin], and the crisping pins [hair curling pins],
23 The glasses [mirrors], and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the veils.
24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle [belt] a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.
25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.
26 And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.

Christian Attire and Biblical Attire Research

If this Scripture was written today, what would it include? Would make up be on the list? What about fingernail polish? What about fake fingernails? Oh, there are many items that you may want to rethink that are included in your wardrobe today. Is it a good idea to give them to Goodwill or the Salvation Army? Why, so someone else can buy them and wear them and be lured into thinking that worldly trends are actually proper Christian attire? Yes, it's a new day and age ... It's a new era, different than the time when Lemmie's mom told him about virtue in a woman, but what does your heart tell you?

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, all you should care about is what the Lord thinks. Do you believe that because mini skirts are in style that the Lord thinks it's virtuous for His betrothed to show her legs to the world? What about letting your bra straps show ... On purpose!? Ask yourself again, How should a Christian woman dress? Bottom line ... Does your clothing say, "I'm betrothed to Jesus Christ."

1 Timothy 2:9-10

9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 But (which becometh women professing Godliness) with good works.

Now, that Scripture from the New Testament reflects the laws within the New Covenant you decide what kind of attire is proper Christian attire. You probably have a lot of accessories that you may look at and conclude that you had no motive other than modesty when you bought them, and of course, the decision is up to you as to whether or not you're representing Christ when you wear them. Nobody is saying you should put on a robe and a cloak like they did in Biblical days, or trash everything you own, but rather to look at your wardrobe and ask yourself what your Jesus ... Your betrothed ... Your beloved ... Your protector ... Your defender ... Would think of you wearing it ... In public.

Biblical Attire Answers

If you have some pretty little cross earrings, do you think the Lord would frown upon you wearing them? What about a skull and crossbones necklace? Quite a difference, don't you think?

There are many different "styles" that evolve during a person's lifetime, and some are conservative, some are not. You can represent a whole spectrum of different things by the way you dress ... Intelligence, rebellion, gang loyalty, ethnic or religious traditions, modern trends or fads, sexy, formal, informal, professional, casual ... Your clothes say something about you, so be sure to use good judgment when you dress. Be honest with yourself. God knows your heart. Look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, How should a Christian woman dress?

An interesting thing to note is what Paul said:

1 Corinthians 9:19-22

19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

Many people have misinterpreted this passage to mean, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," and many women may think, "When in the 21st century, dress as a modern woman dresses." But that's not exactly what Paul said. Wasn't Paul really saying that he went "undercover" in order to save the souls of people? He didn't become them, he became as them, in order to gain their confidence, and then he was able to reach their hearts. Again, the issue isn't what you do, it's your motivation for doing it.

Biblical Attire Warning

Can you claim that the reason you choose your attire is because you believe that a soul will be saved because of it?

If your motivation for wearing a certain thing in public is to attract attention, or because it's sexy, how do you think the Lord feels about it? If you're wearing something because you think it's pretty, and you don't give a hoot what anybody else thinks, Great ... As long as you firmly believe that it is something the Lord would approve of. But any time you choose to wear something because of what someone else may think, or if you disregard your conscience when you know something isn't righteous, that's when your virtue concerning the matter becomes questionable.

A woman's beauty comes from inside. God will not be tallying the amount of ribbons you've won in beauty pageants, taking note of what color your fingernails are painted or how shapely you've tweezed your eyebrows. You are God's artwork. Can anyone take anything that God created and make it better? ... Even you?

Most women are very concerned about what they wear. Indeed, more concerned about what their appearance looks like to other people, than how their soul looks to their Lord. If this describes you, I urge you to gain a new perspective. Take a good hard look at what you wear, and ask yourself How Should a Christian Woman Dress? What message are you giving to the Lord's sheep by what you're wearing? Is this Christian attire? Put your creativity to work. Start a new trend. Ignore people who make rude comments if your apparel isn't revealing enough or stylish enough for them. Jesus is smiling on you ... Isn't that really your only concern?

Affecting Others

One topic that is difficult to discuss is rape, but there are a lot of people out in the world, and the numbers seem to be growing rapidly, who have criminal minds, and sexual assault is often the result. Now, you may think it far fetched, but sometimes a bra strap showing, a low-cut blouse or one button too many unbuttoned at the neckline, a skirt or shorts that are too short, slacks that are too tight, a belly button showing ... Anything of this sort could just be enough to set off a criminal's urges and many have confessed that they stalk and victimize women who display these types of things.

Do you want to be responsible for something like that? Is this ridiculous? Why do women wear things like that? Because it's sexy? If so, shouldn't a woman's husband be the only person she wears it in front of? What you and your spouse mutually agree on in private is not looked upon as wrong, as long as it stays private and doesn't touch another soul.

How Should a Christian Woman Dress to Go Out
Righteous and Proper Christian Attire

Hebrews 13:4

Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

But if you're wearing clothing out and about, which should be reserved for intimate times with your spouse, you are wearing it for anyone who sees you. It really doesn't matter what I think, ask your betrothed what He thinks. How much of your body do you think He wants the world to see? Proper Christian attire is a wiser choice.

True Beauty

In our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, His beauty is in the scars in His wrists, His feet and His side, and the crown that He wore, was not a crown of gold and jewels, but of thorns and it inflicted pain and suffering ... For us. That, is beauty incomparable. Strive for the kind of inner beauty that Jesus possessed and the Biblical attire that virtuous women wore.

Isaiah, Chapter 53

1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.
4 Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to His own way; and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare His generation? for He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was He stricken.
9 And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; he hath put Him to grief: when thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He hath poured out His soul unto death: and He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

How Should a Christian Woman Dress Summary

Inner beauty is the only beauty the Lord knows.

Forgiveness is Your Best Dress

If you are a woman that has been deceived out of ignorance or the ways of the world, or peer pressure, or any other reason, and you have piercings or tattoos, or if you have had surgery to enhance or diminish any certain portion of your physical self, Don't let anyone convince you that you're going to Hell because of it. You know, most sins are invisible, but there are a lot of people that have altered the godly image that God blessed them with, and those alterations can be seen. Does that make them unforgivable? Heavens no! You know the Truth. Is lust any less wrong than pierced ears, just because people can't see lust? Absolutely not!

Reminder ... Jesus is all about forgiveness. It was the fabric of His being. Clothe yourself in proper Christian Attire that Jesus wore, humble and meek and holy. And don't forget, when you are in need of forgiveness, after you ask Jesus to forgive you for your sins, forgive yourself, never forgetting the lessons that you learned from them. How should a Christian woman dress? Dress as if your Lord, whom you are the bride to be of, can see you. (Marriage Supper of the Lamb). Do not disappoint Him and make Him ashamed of you. It would be a very bad trade.

His love for you is so magnificent!

Reflect on God's Grace, every day of your life.
